INDONESIA - SURABAYA
Surabaya is the capital city of East Java region, Indonesia and ranks the second largest city in the country after Jakarta. Surabaya is located at the mouth of the Mas River in the East Java region of the Republic of Indonesia in Southeast Asia. The port city of Surabaya, which has become a commercial, industrial, financial and educational center in eastern Indonesia, has a population of about 3.5 million. The language spoken in the city is a special language known as Suroboyoan, a dialect of Javanese. The most common language used as a foreign language is English.
The city is rich in colonial architecture and wide streets. The House of Sampoerna orphanage, built by the Dutch in the 19th century and later used as a cigarette factory, is one of the main attraction points in the city. Surabaya's historic old town is a fascinating mix of Arabic, Dutch, Javanese and Chinese influences. Cultures, lifestyles and people are diverse in the city that is a metropolis.
SURABAYA - GAZIANTEP AFFAIRS
Gaziantep Municipality signed a twinning protocol with the Indonesian city of Surabaya on April 27, 2021. Many online meetings were held by the Foreign Relations departments of both municipalities and in this context the foundations were laid for various projects that would benefit both cities.
