TURKISH REPUBLIC OF NORTHERN CYPRUS - NICOSIA
Nicosia, located in the middle of the Cyprus island, is the capital city of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Comprising a population of 100.000 people, Nicosia is the most populous city in Cyprus and the most important cultural, industrial, commercial, and transportation center. The city is the only divided capital in the world and is divided into two by the border called “Green Line". It has Turks in the north, Greeks in the south, and the UN Peacekeeping Force in the buffer zone.
Green-housing and industrial plants production are common. These include citrus products, apricots, wild apricot, cumin, anise. The commercial life of the city is quite brisk.
The city is established in a flat area and bears the traces of many civilizations, cultures, and religions in its historical texture.
The first Turkish Municipal Committee was founded on June 16, 1958 in Nicosia. The legal status was granted to the Nicosia Turkish Municipality with the Constitution of the Republic of Cyprus in 1960.
The cities of Gaziantep and Nicosia officially became Sister Cities on 07.12.2009.

The city of Nicosia and Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality support each other in terms of culture and actively carry out their sister city relation by participating in the festivals. The Municipalities, which engage in activities specifically in the areas of activity regarding local government, have realized important collaborations.
