ÇİN-URUMÇİ

Urumqi is the capital of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, also known as East Turkestan, in northwest China. It has a population of 2.5 million. It is one of China's main routes to the west. It is an important gateway in rail transportation.

Urumqi, the city where the first Turkic civilizations lived, carries a deep-rooted historical depth from the past to the present and is an important route of the historical Silk Road. The majority of the people living in Urumqi are the continuation of the Turkic Muslim population that has existed since the past.

Urumqi enjoys a significant locational advantage. Its proximity to major trading countries has made it a center where trade is developing. For this reason, Urumqi was declared Xinjiang's first free trade zone in 2011.

Urumqi, which has done very important work in education, provides significant trainings, especially in the design of model aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV).

Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality signed Sister City Protocol with Urumqi City on September 23, 2016.
