ADYGEA REPUBLIC - MAIKOP

          

Maikop is the capital city of the Adygea Republic located within the Russian Federation. The population of the city is approximately 155,000. 72.59% of the city population consists of Russian origin and 16.65% of Adyghe origin.

On May 18, 1857, Maikop was founded as a Russian military stronghold. Maikop was endowed with the city status on December 12, 1870. Today, the city is of prime importance regarding timber, perfumery, and notably the food industry. The nearby hot springs have turned Maikop into a spa and thermal center.

Furthermore, there are two universities in the city, namely Adyghe State University and the Maikop State University of Technology. The city also lies at the heart of art, culture, education, health and tourism of the region with the theaters and dance teams of the Adyghe National Museum (AUM), where many works are exhibited.

Gaziantep and Maikop Municipalities entered into the Sister City Agreement on October 10, 2011.

MAIKOP - GAZIANTEP RELATIONS

The cities of Maikop and Gaziantep held bilateral discussions in the fields of commerce and industry, and mutual visits were made to the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of the two cities.

In addition, the cities that came together through cultural activities mutually promoted important events.
